Kevin Hall Selected as New Spokane Police Chief

~ Spokane, WA - After an extensive search and community input process, Mayor Lisa Brown has announced Kevin Hall as the new Chief of the Spokane Police Department. The decision was made following glowing recommendations from the City of Spokane's selection committee, which included leaders representing diverse perspectives from across the community.

Chief Hall brings over 30 years of experience in law enforcement to his new role in Spokane. He joins the department from Tucson, Arizona where he has served with the Tucson Police Department since 1989. During his time there, he held several leadership positions and most recently served as Assistant Chief of Police since 2016.

Throughout his career, Chief Hall has worked across various departments within the Tucson Police Department. He has led the Special Services and Innovation Bureau, Patrol Services Bureau, and worked in units such as Homicide, Home Invasion, Physical Child Abuse, SWAT, and Patrol. He is also credited for his innovative approaches to community-based violent crime reduction, alternative staffing and response models, traffic safety planning, as well as ethical and equitable budgeting.

In addition to his extensive experience in law enforcement, Chief Hall holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration - Public Safety from Arizona State University and Bachelor's Degrees in Sociology and Psychology from the University of California, Riverside. He has also received specialized training from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executives in State & Local Government and FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute.

Mayor Brown expressed her excitement for Chief Hall's appointment stating that he embodies the qualities that were sought after by both the public and department personnel during the selection process. "From public feedback to department personnel, it was clear our community wants a leader who demonstrates character, integrity, and accountability," said Mayor Brown.

Chief Hall also shared his enthusiasm for his new role stating that he is honored to be selected as Spokane's Police Chief. He plans to bring a passion for collaboration, innovation, data-driven strategies, and value-based policing to the department. He also emphasized the importance of community involvement in co-producing public safety and ensuring the well-being of all members of the agency.

The Police Guild, represented by Detective Dave Dunkin, also expressed their support for Chief Hall's appointment. "I am filled with optimism and confident Chief Hall will build on the strengths of this department and guide us through the evolution of policing to ensure exceptional service to the community," said Detective Dunkin.

Luc Jasmin III, Chair of the Office of the Police Ombudsman Commission, also shared his excitement for Chief Hall's vision and strategic approach to public safety. "Throughout the interview process, I was impressed by Chief Hall's vision as well as his thoughtful, nuanced, and strategic approach to public safety," said Jasmin.

While an official start date is still being worked out, Chief Hall is expected to begin his new role prior to September 1. Mayor Brown believes that Chief Hall will be a valuable asset to both the department and the community. "Chief Hall will be good for our department and good for Spokane," she said.
