Charlie Kirk's murder at Utah Valley University shocks the nation

GLENVIEW, Ill. - Washingtoner -- Glenview, IL — John Thomas, Republican candidate for Governor of Illinois, released the following statement today after learning of the tragic death of Charlie Kirk in Utah.

"My heart is heavy with grief after hearing the tragic news of Charlie's passing," said Thomas. "Today, I ask all Illinoisans, and people across this country, to join me in lifting his family in prayer during this unimaginable time of loss.

Charlie was more than a public figure; he was a devoted spouse, family member, and friend to many of us in the conservative movement. The pain that his loved ones are facing is beyond words, and they will need strength, comfort, and compassion in the difficult days ahead.

In moments like these, we must set politics aside. Tragedy reminds us of the value of life, the importance of family, and the need for unity. May we honor Charlie Kirk's life by holding our own loved ones a little closer and by working toward a more peaceful and respectful public debate on the critical issues facing our states and our nation."

Thomas closed by urging communities to come together: "Let us respond to this tragedy not with more division, but with faith, compassion, and solidarity. Please keep Charlie's family in your thoughts and prayers."
