Indie Designers Collaborate on Youtube for Good Causes
Fashion REBELution partners with nonprofits to showcase sustainable fashion

Fashion REBElution designers, chose causes they believe in and now are auctioning off the pieces they made to raise funds for their partner organizations. The auction uses Youtube comments as a place for silent auction style bids from now until midnight August 18th.

People logged into Google can search "Fashion REBELution June Challenge" and will find a video that show the finished pieces along with discussions by the designers about their garments and the nonprofits they support. Each design has a thread in the comment section where people can reply to those comments to place their bids.  At the end of the auction Fashion REBELution will put the designers in touch with the winning bidders to coordinate the donation and shipping.

Fashion REBELution, indie designers with a soft spot for the environment, credits COVID for brining them together.  This support group meets regularly on Zoom to collaborate, create and cultivate their businesses. Four brands took the spotlight for this challenge partnering with Recycle to Riches, NARAL Pro Choice Washington, Seattle Recycled Arts, and Revolution Thrift.

When asked why Fashion REBELution didn't use a traditional auction site, founder Staci Bernstein replied, "First, we want to raise awareness of our channel and the alternatives to fast fashion we are pioneering.  Second, we think seeing the garments and hearing the stories behind them make them more valuable. It's more than a thing, it's a piece of mythology, a bit of a dream and a connection to the artist that made it. Third, we are very grass roots and setting up financial systems for all the brands and their partner organizations was too involved to be practical for the scope of what we are doing.  Youtube wasn't designed to facilitate this but you can make wonderful discoveries with out of the box thinking and we are all about that."
