New Study Provides Guidelines to Enhance Esthetic Outcomes in Dental Implants

FULLERTON, Calif. - Washingtoner -- Dr. Joon W. Park, DDS, in collaboration with colleagues from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, has published a significant clinical study in The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. The study, titled "Proposal regarding horizontal and vertical positioning of single implants placed in healed sites: Effect on cervical crown form and the need for bone grafting," offers critical insights into optimizing dental implant placement for improved esthetic outcomes.

Dr. Joon W. Park's research helps improve the appearance of dental implants by focusing on precise placement in relation to surrounding teeth. His study shows that correct positioning of implants leads to better alignment and contour, making them look more natural. When ideal placement isn't possible due to bone loss, he recommends bone grafting to achieve the best results. These guidelines enable dental professionals to provide more aesthetically pleasing and successful implant outcomes for their patients.

"When single implants are placed in healed sites, [the] guidelines are lacking" said the team in the abstract of the paper. "As a result, clinicians may find the guidelines proposed in this paper for horizontal and vertical implant placement helpful in treatment planning implant placement in healed sites and determining when bone grafting is needed to optimize the result."

The research is particularly relevant as it fills a gap in the existing literature, where numerical guidelines for implant placement in healed sites have been lacking. The study's findings will help clinicians determine when bone grafting is necessary and guide the precise placement of implants to achieve the best possible esthetic dentistry results.
