~ Tacoma, WA- The City of Tacoma is excited to announce the opening of the highly anticipated J Street Neighborhood Greenway on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Located at Edna Travis Park on 2301 South J Street, the greenway aims to improve safety and accessibility for community members traveling by foot, bike, or other means of transportation.
The grand opening celebration will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a slow-paced, family-friendly bike ride along J Street. Led by 2nd Cycle Tacoma, this ride will give participants a chance to experience the greenway firsthand. At 6 p.m., a unique ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place where participants will ride through streamers instead of the traditional ribbon.

In addition to the festivities, there will be opportunities for community members to learn more about the project and hear from project team members. The two-mile route stretches from North 3rd Street to South 27th Street and includes east-west connections on South 11th Street, Earnest S. Brazil Street, South 17th Street, and South 18th Street.
The J Street Neighborhood Greenway was designed with the goal of reducing speeding and creating a safer environment for those traveling to local businesses, schools, transit stops, parks, and other daily destinations.
