Tacoma: Applicants Sought for the Landmarks Preservation Commission

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill several positions on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. This commission is responsible for overseeing the establishment and regulation of landmarks, local historic districts, and certain property tax incentives within the city.

According to the press release, there are five positions available on the commission. Two of these positions are for architects, open to individuals who are currently or have been professionally certified in this field. The third position is an at-large position, open to anyone with a demonstrated interest in historic preservation. The remaining two positions are for professionals with experience or training related to historic preservation in various disciplines such as art history, architecture, and urban planning.

In addition to these vacancies, the City is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within its committees, boards, and commissions. All individuals from diverse backgrounds including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees are encouraged to apply.

Applicants who are appointed will be required to complete trainings on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. These trainings will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
