Spokane: Suspect Arrested for Drive by Shooting, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

~ Spokane Police have arrested a male suspect in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred on April 18th in the 5900 block of North Lindeke Street. The suspect, who has been identified as Zachary M. Nelson (31), had been receiving medical treatment since the incident took place.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, Public Information Officer for the Spokane Police Department, probable cause was established to charge Nelson with drive-by shooting, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and discharging a weapon.

On the evening of May 9th, SPD received information that Nelson had left the medical facility against medical advice and his whereabouts were unknown. Officers immediately began an extensive search for him and were able to locate him around 3am in the Perry District.

Thanks to alert SPD officers, who recognized the vehicle that Nelson had left the medical facility in, he was apprehended as a passenger in the car. It was later revealed that he had been picked up by a female after leaving the facility.

Nelson was taken into custody and booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of drive-by shooting, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and discharging a weapon. He also faces an additional charge for violating a court order.

The Spokane Police Department is commended for their swift action in locating and arresting the suspect. This arrest serves as an example of their dedication to keeping the community safe from dangerous individuals like Zachary M. Nelson.
