~ Spokane Police arrested a 44-year-old man, Jarrell D. Williams, on May 13th, 2024 at 9:27pm after discovering an active felony warrant for his arrest. The traffic stop took place in the area of Maple and Sharp, where officers contacted Williams and took him into custody for Department of Corrections (DOC) violations.
Upon arriving at the Spokane County Jail, Williams was being processed for his warrant when he pulled out a concealed object from his person. The object was later identified as a white powdered substance. In an intentional act, Williams threw the powder towards the toilet in the processing area, causing it to disperse throughout the holding cell.
As a result of this deliberate act, two corrections officers were exposed to the dangerous substance and displayed physical effects of a possible fentanyl exposure. The substance was visibly seen on their uniforms and they were quickly given Narcan by jail staff. One officer required a second dose and both were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
