On May 29th, 2025 at 4:30am SPD responded to the area of 2400 West Rockwell Avenue on a report of a shooting. Multiple calls were made to 911 after shots were heard in the area. Initial information obtained by arriving officers indicated a vehicle pulled up in front of the residence and gunfire was exchanged between the vehicle occupants and a subject inside the residence. Officers stopped a vehicle leaving the scene a short distance away and observed what appeared to be bullet strikes on the exterior of the car. The occupant of the vehicle was detained pending the investigation. While that was happening, additional officers surrounded the involved residence as SWAT, HNT and the SPD Air Support Unit arrived to assist. Officers learned that a female and a child were in the residence along with the shooting suspect. A spent shell casing was also observed near the home.

Shortly after officers surrounded the home, two adult females and a child exited the front of the residence and were safely escorted away from the scene. Minutes later, a male (Steven Davis) exited the back of the home and was detained by officers. After obtaining a search warrant, officers checked the residence, but did not locate anyone else inside. There are no injuries related to this shooting. Steven M. Davis (23) was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and 2nd Degree Assault. This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges/arrests may be forthcoming. SPD asks anyone with information to please contact Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
