~ Spokane City Council Member Lili Navarrete has announced her resignation from her position as the District 2 representative. In a statement released by Lisa Gardner, the City Council Communications Director, Navarrete expressed her sadness and explained that it was a difficult decision to make.
Navarrete, who has lived in Spokane's East Central neighborhood for 37 years after immigrating from Mexico City, stated that it had been an honor to represent her beloved district. She also credited the neighborhood for shaping her into a passionate advocate for a safe, clean, and prosperous city for all.
During her time as a Council Member, Navarrete introduced several ordinances that she is proud of, including the Human Rights and Basic Dignity of Individuals Experiencing Homelessness and the Language Access Ordinance. She also made efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace and hopes that her contributions have positively impacted the City Council and its employees.

However, after much consideration, Navarrete has decided that it is time for her to move on to new challenges and opportunities. She expressed confidence in the Council's ability to continue thriving without her and believes that they are well-equipped to handle any challenges that may arise.
Navarrete also took the opportunity to thank her colleagues on the City Council team, including Council President and fellow members. She described working with them as enlightening and praised their passion for advancing transformative policies. She also acknowledged the specialized knowledge provided by the passionate Council staff.
As she wraps up her current projects, Navarrete encourages anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to her. Her last day on the City Council will be June 30, 2025. The City Council will now begin the process of filling Navarrete's seat in District 2.
