Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward has ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff to coincide with President Joseph R. Biden's directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered for Peace Officers Memorial Day on Saturday May 15, 2021.
"On Peace Officers Memorial Day we honor local, state and federal police officers who have died, or who have been disabled in the line of duty," Woodward said. "This year we honor 18 officers and two K-9s who died in the line of duty during the past few years, including Spokane Police Department Lieutenant Jon (JD) Anderson and Kalispell Tribal Police Officer Jay Hughes. The names of these officers have been added to the Law Enforcement Memorial located at the Public Safety Building."
