What the move to Phase 2 means for City of Spokane Parks & Recreation
Media: Fianna Dickson, 435.1866. Parks & Recreation: 311 or 509.755.2489
We are excited by the announcement of our region's move to Phase 2! Phase 2 brings new opportunities for Parks & Recreation to deliver activities and facilities we've been anxious to safely open and expand.
It will take us a little time, generally a few weeks, to ramp up staffing. We have operational plans in place, and are working quickly to hire the needed staff and purchase operational supplies. Safety will remain number one. Here's the scoop:
Phase 2 updates for Parks & Recreation
Recreation programs: We are able to offer some new activities, including sports in the low and moderate risk categories. Registration is open now for cornhole, and registration for adult flag football will begin Monday, February 15. Registration information for other activities, including softball, to follow. www.SpokaneRec.org.
We're also able to expand the size of some programs currently offered indoors and outdoors. It will take 3-4 weeks to hire and train additional staff in order to accommodate these new developments.
Our Spring Activity Guide will reflect many of these new and expanded options, while still offering many Phase 1 options if our region were to roll back. Our Spring Activity Guide will be released digitally in a few weeks, and we'll continuously update the list of available programs at www.SpokaneRec.org. If you have questions, please call us at 311 (outside the city, dial 509.755.2489).

Field rentals: Competitions are now possible under Phase 2 for low, moderate, and high-risk sports, though tournaments are not allowed. Our synthetic turf fields are available for rental now, and grass fields will be available for our regular season beginning April 1, weather dependent. Under Phase 2, 75 people are allowed per field. To reserve fields, please contact Carissa at 625.6208 or cware@spokanecity.org.
Riverfront attractions: We are preparing to re-open the Looff Carrousel at a reduced capacity! Our operational plans are pending review, and visitors will experience some changes to spacing on the Carrousel and ticketing. More information to come soon. The Numerica Skate Ribbon and SkyRide remain open under revised protocols. The Numerica SkyRide is undergoing annual preventative maintenance Mondays – Thursdays, February 16 – March 25, and will be open Fridays – Sundays during that time. The Numerica Skate Ribbon is anticipated to stay open through February for ice skating.
Riverfront-hosted events and activities: Riverfront is preparing spring activities that align with Phase 2 guidelines, building on the successes of active and safe holiday celebrations in the park under Phase 1. As spring programs are finalized, we'll share them at www.RiverfrontSpokane.org.
Golf: Phase 2 means indoor golf simulators can operate at 25% capacity. Visit www.SpokaneGolf.org for course contact information. Schedule simulator time to perfect your swing before our courses open. Downriver, Indian Canyon, Esmeralda, and The Creek at Qualchan were able to remain open for much of 2020, and we are looking forward to another active and safe season of golf. We will share opening dates as they are known.

Indoor and outdoor event space rentals: We are happy to assist with reservation requests that meet Phase 2 guidelines, and to hold dates for future weddings or special events. If you're interested in hosting a public or private event at Riverfront Park, please email us at rfpevents@spokanecity.org. For all other parks, please email us at parkopsreservations@spokanecity.org.
Restrooms: Permanent restrooms remain closed (they are normally closed for the winter this time of year). Portable restrooms are on site in several of the most popular park locations.
Community & Senior Centers: Centers operate independently. Please contact the centers directly for questions. Contact information for Senior and Community Centers.
We anticipate additional changes as the situation evolves, and will communicate with you when those occur. We hope you and your families are well, and we look forward to a healthy and active spring season.
