~ Spokane City Council Member Lili Navarrete has announced her resignation from her position, effective July 1, 2025. This has initiated the process for the City Council to fill the expected vacancy in District 2, Position 2.
According to Council Rules and Procedures and Section 8 of the City Charter, the City Council will appoint a replacement with a specific timeline in place. The application period will open on May 23, 2025 and interested individuals can access applications on the City's website, at the City Council offices on the 7th floor of City Hall, or at the MySpokane service desk on the 1st floor of City Hall.
All applications must be received by the City Clerk's office no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 20, 2025. The council plans to conduct interviews with applicants on July 10, which will be open to the public during a publicly noticed council meeting.

On July 14, there will be a public hearing during a regular legislative session where members of the public can provide testimony regarding potential candidates. After this hearing and completion of interviews, an executive session may be held by the council to evaluate qualifications for potential appointees.
The final decision for filling the council vacancy is set to take place on July 28, when the council intends to vote in open session.
Applicants for this council seat must have been residents of District 2 since at least July 28, 2024. The individual appointed to this seat will serve approximately four months until the current election for District 2, Position 2 is certified.
