~ The City of Spokane is taking steps to reduce project timelines this fall by closing the Development Services Center (DSC) to walk-ins on Wednesdays from 8 to 11 a.m. starting Wednesday, Sept. 27, through at least the end of the year. Tamara Palmquist, spokesperson for the City, said that calls will go to voicemail during those times and that this is being done in order to maximize staff time and focus on plan reviews before the International Code Council codes change on March 15, 2024.

The City has seen a spike in residential and commercial permit applications prior to the code change and has maintained the same staffing level despite this increase. In August alone, there was an overall permit valuation of $82 million with 358 new total residential units permitted - the highest monthly total ever.
Palmquist said that this window of closure is necessary in order to help address the housing crisis one permit at a time and thanked citizens for their cooperation and understanding during this period.
