~ Spokane, WA - As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, July 4, the City of Spokane has announced closures and cancellations in observance of the holiday. According to Erin Hut, Communications Director for the city, City Hall and other city facilities will be closed on July 4th. This includes the Waste-to-Energy facility.

In addition, Hut stated that garbage, recycling, and yard waste services will be delayed by one day after the holiday. Normal Friday services are expected to resume on Saturday.

The city has also provided a list of other closures and cancellations for Independence Day. On-street paid parking meters and kiosks will not require payments on July 4th. However, it is important to note that all parking rules, including time limits, still apply even when parking is free on holidays.

All Spokane Public Library locations will be closed on Independence Day. The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will also be closed.

The City of Spokane Fire Department would like to remind residents that the sale and use of amateur (consumer) fireworks is illegal in several areas, including Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Millwood, Liberty Lake, and unincorporated areas of Spokane County. Fines for fireworks violations are $536 per infraction. It is important to note that even sparklers are considered illegal. Residents can report violations by calling Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

For those with unwanted fireworks, the city offers a solution for disposal at no cost. Residents can dispose of them in the household hazardous waste area at the Waste-to-Energy Facility.

As the city prepares for Independence Day celebrations and closures, residents are reminded to stay safe and follow all laws and regulations. Happy Fourth of July from the City of Spokane!
