~ As Memorial Day approaches, the City of Spokane has announced several closures and changes to city services. According to Communications Director Erin Hut, Spokane City Hall and other city facilities, including the Waste to Energy facility, will be closed on Monday, May 26 in observance of the holiday.
Residents are advised that garbage, recycling, and yard waste services will be delayed by one day all week, with Friday's services being pushed to Saturday. Those who miss their designated garbage day can report it online through the city's website.
In addition, on-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment on Memorial Day. However, it is important to note that all parking rules, including time limits, still apply even when parking is free on holidays.
The Spokane Public Library branches will also be closed for the holiday weekend. The online library catalog will also be down for maintenance during this time. The Hillyard Public Library will also be closed on Sunday, May 25.

The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will also be closed on Memorial Day. As a result, Spokane 311 employees will not be available for in-person, phone or online customer service inquiries. However, residents can still access information and submit requests through the Spokane311.org website.
Development Services Center employees will also not be available on Memorial Day. Additionally, the Spokane City Council has canceled its meeting for the holiday and will resume its regular schedule on Monday, June 2.
While many city services may be affected by the holiday closures, there are still plenty of activities available for residents to enjoy over the long weekend. Riverfront Park attractions such as the Looff Carrousel, Numerica SkyRide and Skate Ribbon will remain open during this time. More information about these attractions can be found online.
City golf courses will also have normal operations during Memorial Day weekend. And for those looking to cool off from the summer heat early this year, select splash pads are scheduled to open on Friday, May 23 ahead of the holiday weekend.
As always, the City of Spokane encourages residents to stay informed and plan accordingly for any changes or closures during the Memorial Day holiday.
