Spokane: City Closures Planned For Juneteenth

~ Spokane, WA - As the nation prepares to celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, Spokane City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, June 19. This decision was announced by Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the city, who can be reached at 509.625.6740.

In addition to City Hall, other city services will also be affected by the holiday. The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services, all branches of the Spokane Public Library, and the Development Services Center will also be closed on Juneteenth.

The Spokane City Council will not hold a meeting on Monday, June 17. However, regular meetings will resume on Monday, June 24 with a briefing session at 3:30 p.m. followed by a legislative session at 6 p.m. These meetings can be viewed live on CityCable 5 or streamed online through Facebook or spokanecity.org.

Parking meters and kiosks will not require payment on Juneteenth; however, all parking rules and time limits still apply even when parking is free on holidays.

While some services will be closed for the holiday, others will continue to operate as usual. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste services will proceed as scheduled and both the Waste-to-Energy facility and County's transfer stations will remain open.

Meanwhile, Riverfront Park attractions such as the Looff Carrousel, Numerica SkyRide, and Numerica Skate Ribbon will remain open for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, city golf courses will have normal operations and splash pads throughout the city will also be open for families to cool off in.
