Explore the History Behind Indiana's Historical Markers Virtually
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Washingtoner -- Explore Indiana's history through its many historical markers. Have you ever wondered about the history behind the roadside historical markers you pass along side Indiana's many highways? A new internet based program produced my local content creator, Michael L Harris, visits Indiana's Historical Markers and documents the history behind each one.
"I use to drive by all of these blue historical markers as I traveled throughout the state and I thought, 'You know, I should stop and check that out… but I never did, then one day I stopped… I was fascinated by the history I read, but I wanted to know more. That's when Indiana Roadside Markers was born,'" shared Michael L Harris, the show's producer.
In addition to documenting his visit to each historical marker, Michael has created a brief documentary about its history, that's what you'll find on the each episode. Michael began filming last year with markers in Elkhart, Kosciusko, Whitley and Allen Counties. Filming during the summer of 2021 will venture into other counties and eventually throughout the state, but the reach of the program goes beyond just the official historical markers. The program will document interesting historical sites whether they have an official state marker or not. The program creators will also share much of their research about each site, including interesting facts and photos not included in the 5-10 minute documentaries created for the program on their official website.

In addition to Harris, local columnist, Tim Ashley is a program researcher and musician Mark McPeak has created the programs original theme.
Season One of Indiana Roadside Markers launches on YouTube April 15th 2021 and is available for free to anyone with an internet connection. The show will release a new episode every two weeks for the remainder of 2021. The program seeks corporate and individual sponsors.
