KIRKLAND, Wash., March 9, 2023 ~ For the past decade, mental health awareness has been on the rise, especially during the pandemic. Therapists and psychologists have been able to reach more clients through telehealth, while schools have integrated social skills programs into their curriculum. Despite these efforts, there is still a need to expand the reach of mental health education and teach essential basic skills to those who need them.
Veteran therapist Laura Schneider believes that mental health education should be introduced in primary school years and can be taught online. Schneider, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master's Degree in Psychology, has worked as a mental health counselor since 1993 and ran and developed social skills groups before retiring from her private practice in 2019 to focus full-time on Casey's Clubhouse.
Schneider believes that every child needs a base of mental health and social skills. She explains that much of what we learn is through modeling, but many of our skills are internal processes that children cannot observe. "It's like teaching math through observation only," she says. "The steps someone takes to problem-solve are oftentimes private."

Schneider created an online program to offer children mental health and social-emotional skills. She cites early educational programming like Sesame Street and modern programs like Bluey as examples of how children can learn essential mental and social skills online.
"I know there's a lot of pressure on parents to educate their children," Schneider says. "I think the current outcry for mental health services displays how important early childhood education is to the health of our society." To help parents in their quest to build their children's emotional resiliency and well-being, Schneider has created Casey's Clubhouse which offers holistic, integrated mental health curriculum and support materials based on Best Practices as their guide.
Mental health education is an important part of any child's development, but it can be difficult for schools or parents alone to provide this education without proper resources or guidance. With online programs such as Casey's Clubhouse, however, parents now have access to the tools they need to help their children develop essential mental and social skills from an early age.
