Dr. Navdeep Virk's Spokane practice offers free emergency dental visits to first responders — no insurance or out-of-pocket cost required.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Washingtoner -- As firefighters, EMS personnel, and law enforcement work extended shifts during the wildfire emergency in Spokane County and eastern Washington, Avenue Dental Care North Spokane is offering free emergency dental appointments to anyone serving in those roles — no insurance required, no out-of-pocket cost.

"Our first responders shouldn't have to work through a dental emergency," said Dr. Navdeep Virk of Avenue Dental Care North Spokane. "We want them to know their community appreciates them, and that we're here when they need urgent care."

Spokane's firefighting tradition dates to volunteer companies formed in 1884, helping rebuild the city after the Great Fire of 1889. IAFF Local 29, chartered in 1918, was a founding member of the International Association of Fire Fighters. In 2024, Spokane Fire Department crews answered 54,312 calls, about 82 percent medical — a workload now compounded by regional wildfire response.
