Applications for 2026-2027 Tacoma Creates Funding Now Available

~ Tacoma Creates, a program dedicated to supporting arts, culture, heritage, and science in the Tacoma community, is now accepting applications for its seventh year of funding. The program will provide financial support to non-profit organizations that aim to advance and preserve these important aspects of society. The funding will cover programs and events that will take place between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027.

The City Council has reauthorized Tacoma Creates, demonstrating their commitment to the program and its impact on the community. Mayor Anders Ibsen expressed his pride in continuing to support Tacoma Creates as they work towards building a more creative and connected city.

Nicole Kendrick, Chair of the Tacoma Creates Advisory Board, also shared her enthusiasm for the program's impact over the past six years. She stated that funded organizations have been able to deepen their reach and provide meaningful opportunities for connection and belonging in Tacoma. Kendrick is excited to see proposals that reflect the city's diversity, creativity, and welcoming nature.

There are two categories of funding available through Tacoma Creates: Comprehensive Organizational Support funding and Impact funding. Organizations can apply for Comprehensive Organizational Support funding if they are a 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Tacoma. They may request up to 15 percent of their total annual budget or a maximum of $400,000 per year based on their three-year average income. These organizations must offer ongoing cultural programs accessible to the general public as well as youth education programs. The deadline for applications in this category is March 9, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

For Impact funding, organizations can request a minimum of $3,000 up to $60,000 for a single or multiple programs. This category also supports general public programs and/or youth education programs. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) non-profits or those with an eligible fiscal sponsor. Additionally, Business District Associations and Neighborhood Councils recognized by the City of Tacoma, Affiliate Cultural Organizations within a larger non-profit, and organizations based in Pierce County but primarily serving Tacoma may also apply. There are two levels of funding available: Level A for requests between $3,000 and $20,000 or for organizations proposing Beyond the Bell/Club B or Summer Late Nights classes, and Level B for requests between $20,000 and $60,000. The deadline to apply for Impact funding is March 23, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Interested organizations can find detailed eligibility criteria, application guidelines, and access to the online application form at tacomacreates.org.

To support prospective applicants in developing strong proposals, Tacoma Creates is offering free workshops explaining the application process. These workshops will be available on Zoom as well as in person. Dates and locations can be found on their website along with information on how to schedule individual meetings with staff for additional support.

Tacoma Creates is dedicated to promoting arts, culture, heritage, and science in the community through its funding program. With the City Council's reauthorization and continued support from Mayor Ibsen and Chair Kendrick, it is clear that this program will continue to make a positive impact on Tacoma for years to come. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply before the deadlines to secure funding for their programs and events in the upcoming year.
