~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill nine positions on the Human Services Commission, according to a press release from the city. The commission, which is responsible for reviewing funding applications and making recommendations for human services programs, has eight member positions and one youth position available.
The commission plays a crucial role in promoting community wellness and serving as a resource for the City Council and staff in implementing human services programming. Comprised of 15 members with three-year terms, the commission also includes a one-year term for the youth position, which will be effective starting September 1, 2024.
In line with the city's commitment to creating an equitable and anti-racist community, individuals from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply for these vacancies. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ individuals, those with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants and refugees. Additionally, individuals who have benefited from human services programs related to homelessness or household stability, youth development, domestic violence services or mental health and substance use disorders are also encouraged to apply.
