~ In a recent meeting, Chief of Police Kevin Hall expressed his disappointment with the decision made by the Spokane Regional Emergency Communications (SREC) board to recommend that the City of Spokane establish its own Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). This motion was put forth by committee groups who believe that having a separate PSAP for the city would improve communication between the Spokane Police Department (SPD) and its community members.
Chief Hall, who was appointed as the new Chief of Police, has been working closely with committee groups to integrate SPD into the regional emergency communications system. However, discussions with SREC have revealed that SPD's operational needs differ significantly from those of Spokane Fire. As a result, Chief Hall was disappointed by the decision made by the SREC board.

Despite this setback, SPD wants to assure its residents that their operations will not be affected in the short term. They will continue to respond to calls and provide high-quality service as expected. While SPD is committed to fostering regional partnerships, they also want to ensure that consolidating emergency communications does not compromise critical public safety operations elsewhere.
The importance of maintaining a fluid communication link between SPD and its community members cannot be overstated. As Chief Hall continues to work towards integrating SPD into SREC, he remains dedicated to finding solutions that benefit both parties without compromising public safety operations.
