~ On Monday, November 4, 2024, the City of Spokane's Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments will be honored with the Washington State Department of Commerce Governor's SMART Communities Award. The award ceremony will take place at the entrance to the TJ Meenach sewer siphon site located at 2625 N. Nettleton St. in northwest Spokane.
The award is being presented for the Cochran Basin Stormwater Improvement projects, which have successfully reduced the amount of contaminants entering the Spokane River from over 5,000 acres. This project has not only improved water quality but also provided better outdoor recreation opportunities for the regional community.

Mayor Lisa Brown, along with Department of Commerce Eastern Region Director Ben Serr, Public Works Director Marlene Feist, Department of Ecology Eastern Regional Director Brook Beeler, and Spokane Parks & Recreation Director Garrett Jones will be in attendance to accept the award on behalf of the city.
The SMART Communities Award recognizes projects that demonstrate innovative and sustainable approaches to community development. The City of Spokane is proud to receive this prestigious recognition for their efforts in improving both environmental and recreational aspects within their community.
