~ As Memorial Day approaches, the City of Spokane has announced several closures and changes to city services in observance of the holiday. According to Erin Hut, the Communications Director for the city, these closures are necessary to allow city employees to spend time with their families and honor those who have served in the armed forces.
One of the main closures will be Spokane City Hall, along with other city facilities. This includes the Waste to Energy Facility and Spokane County Transfer Stations, which will not be accepting any garbage, recycling, or yard waste on Monday. Residents who miss their regular garbage day can report it online for collection on Saturday.
In addition, on-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment on Memorial Day. However, it is important to note that all parking rules, including time limits, still apply even when parking is free.
All branches of the Spokane Public Library will also be closed for the holiday weekend. The Hillyard Public Library will also be closed on Friday for carpet cleaning, while the Indian Trail Public Library will be closed on Sunday for the same reason.

The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will also be closed on Monday. This means that there will be no in-person or phone customer service available from Spokane 311 employees. However, residents can still access Spokane311.org 24 hours a day and can expect a response on the next business day.
The Development Services Center employees will also not be available on Memorial Day. And due to the holiday, the Spokane City Council has canceled its meeting for Monday. The next meeting is scheduled for June 1st at 3:30 p.m., which can be viewed live on CityCable 5 or online through the city's website or Facebook page.
While many city services will be closed or limited during Memorial Day weekend, some attractions in Riverfront Park will remain open. This includes popular attractions such as the Looff Carrousel, the Numerica SkyRide, and the Numerica Skate Ribbon. Additionally, city golf courses will have normal operations and select splash pads are set to open on Friday, just in time for the holiday weekend.
For more information on city closures and services during Memorial Day weekend, residents can visit the city's website or contact Spokane311.org. The city wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday as we remember and honor those who have made sacrifices for our country.
