~ Spokane City is currently undergoing improvements on Maxwell Avenue, with a focus on enhancing bike and pedestrian safety. As part of this project, the City will also be conducting necessary stormwater system work this week.
According to Kirstin Davis, the Communications Manager for Spokane City, drivers can expect significant slowdowns while traveling southbound on N. Ash St. between W. Indiana Ave. and W. Maxwell Ave., starting from Tuesday, Sept. 9. This phase of the project is expected to last until Friday, Sept. 12.
During this time, there will be lane reductions on southbound Ash St., with only one lane available for drivers between Augusta Ave. and Maxwell Ave. This may cause congestion on eastbound Northwest Blvd. and southbound Ash St., so alternative routes such as Government Way, Monroe St., Washington St., or Division St. are recommended during peak traffic times.

Pedestrians may also experience sidewalk detours in the area, but local access will be maintained throughout the project duration.
To minimize inconvenience for commuters, it is suggested to alter drive times or utilize remote work if possible during this period of construction.
The City urges drivers to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses that may be impacted by this necessary work. For updates on current obstructions affecting drivers in the City, visit their construction webpage.
