Armstrong Suspends his Campaign as an Independent Candidate for the Governor of New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. - Washingtoner -- Five months after launching his historic write-in campaign to become NJ's 57th Governor, Rev. Darrell Armstrong, Pastor of the 145-year old Shiloh Baptist Church of Trenton, and immediate past President of the NJ Coalition of Religious Leaders, is officially suspending his gubernatorial bid and is endorsing Democratic candidate, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill.

In a video announcement, Armstrong thanked his many supporters who signed-up and volunteered for what he called a "grassroots movement, not a traditional campaign." Armstrong targeted the state's 2.4 million unaffiliated voters in NJ whom he believes are disconnected from, discouraged by, and dissatisfied with our traditional two party system.

He states that his goal "was, and still is, to address your concerns and posit solutions that could excite and invigorate your vote because you are the second largest voting block in our state." Specifically, Armstrong stated,  "I promised to fight against President Trump's extreme attempts to divide our nation along religious and racial lines…AND I DID, I KEPT MY PROMISE!

I promised to challenge racism wherever it reared its ugly head (from the White House to NJ's statehouse…in the nation's capital to our state's capital)…AND I DID, I KEPT MY PROMISE!

I promised to defend DEI and promote a more inclusive NJ and the best state in the Union in which to live, work, play, and pray…AND I DID, I KEPT MY PROMISE!

Lastly, I promised that I would suspend my campaign if there was no clear pathway to victory, and endorse the candidate who would represent my values…and this is what I am doing today…KEEPING MY PROMISE."

To this end, Pastor Darrell Armstrong is officially suspending his campaign and endorsing Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill to become the next Governor of the great State of NJ. Her campaign promises to fight for affordability, opportunity, and freedom in New Jersey aligns with the key issues for which he was called to enter the Gubernatorial race.

Armstrong stated, "I believe Mikie will bring a full arsenal of talents, gifts, skills, and values to the high office of Governor: Her military background affirms her strategic, tactical thinking and decision-making ability. Her family background as a Wife and Mom of 4 children, lets me know that she will be loving and compassionate to all of NJ's families. Her record in Congress lets me know that she will defend all people of NJ regardless of where they were born and what language they speak.

Let's send Mikie to the State House so she can fulfill her campaign promises and stand-up against the bully in The White House."

Armstrong will rebrand his Armstrong4Governor efforts and continue doing voter education - voter engagement under the new brand "A4G" for "Armstrong for the Garden State".
