~ The City of Tacoma has taken a step towards ensuring that small businesses, and those owned by BIPOC individuals and women, have equal access to City contracting opportunities. The City has contracted with Keen Independent, an equity research firm, to conduct a study on the marketplace conditions and any disparities there may be with City contracting.
Mayor Victoria Woodards said, "Obtaining contracts for City projects can be a complex process to navigate, and we want to help our minority and woman-owned businesses have the same opportunities to bid for our contracts."
Keen Independent will begin their study today and will be conducting interviews, focus groups, surveys and town hall meetings with local business owners and the public. The study is expected to be completed in 2024. The data collected from the study will be used by the City to ensure that they are giving as many local businesses an opportunity to compete for and receive City contracts.
