~ Spokane Welcomes New Deputy Police Ombuds Lissa Mascio
The City of Spokane has announced the hiring of Lissa Mascio as the new Deputy Police Ombuds. The decision was made after a thorough national search and Mascio's impressive qualifications.
Mascio brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as the Deputy and acting Legislative and Policy Director for the New Hampshire Office of the Child Advocate. In this position, she oversaw child welfare ombuds services and worked on behalf of domestic violence victims. She also has a background in prosecuting abuse and neglect cases, as well as representing parents in the child welfare system.
Originally from Queens, New York, Mascio spent most of her childhood in New Hampshire before living in various other states such as Arizona and Vermont. She holds a B.A. in Journalism and English from the University of New Hampshire and later attended Hofstra Law School in Hempstead, New York.
According to Police Ombuds Bart Logue, Mascio was a unanimous choice for the position due to her strong legal background and experience with oversight of corrections and law enforcement use of force. He believes her previous role as a Deputy in a state-level ombuds office will ensure a smooth transition into her new position.

Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall also expressed his excitement about Mascio's hiring, stating that her commitment to public service and advocacy for vulnerable communities will be an asset to the city. He looks forward to working with her to strengthen trust and accountability between the police department and the community.
The Spokane Police Guild was also impressed by the high-quality candidates who applied for the position. Detective Dave Dunkin, President of the Spokane Police Guild, believes that Mascio's hiring is not only beneficial for the Office of Ombuds but also for the community and its members. He looks forward to working with her and gaining a new perspective on police oversight in Spokane.
Mascio herself is thrilled to join the Office of the Police Ombuds and is eager to relocate to the beautiful city of Spokane. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, participating in community theater, and traveling.
The City of Spokane is confident that Mascio's strong legal background, investigative skills, and commitment to public service will enhance the oversight processes in Spokane. With her joining the team, they hope to continue strengthening trust and accountability between the police department and the community they serve.
