~ The Tacoma Arts Commission has recently announced the recipients of its Community Arts Projects funding, totaling $147,000. This funding will support 30 organizations, groups, and businesses in their efforts to bring arts experiences to the community through various public outreach projects in 2026.
According to Tacoma Arts Commission Chair Jasmine Brown, these projects aim to make arts accessible and community-centered while celebrating the diverse cultures of Tacoma. They will include cultural festivals and celebrations, youth education programs, artist markets with performing arts programming, music concerts and workshops, dance performances and workshops, theater workshops, cross-disciplinary cultural workshops, murals, visual art exhibits, community engagement projects, and programs focused on the disability community.
Among the organizations receiving funding are Alliance for Accessibility for their We are Not Forgotten Showcase; Asia Pacific Cultural Center for their 28th Annual Asia Pacific New Year Celebration featuring Cambodia; Barefoot Collective for Dancing in the Park; Black Night Market for various events such as Poetry After Dark and Black Art Soiree; Capoeira Vida for free youth, family, and adult programs; Caribbean Queens for their Caribbean Queens Festival; Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation for the Tacoma Moon Festival; Foss Waterway Seaport for their Tacoma Salmon in the Classroom Art Project; Greentrike for Sparks at Children's Museum of Tacoma; Hilltop Artists for their Monkeyshines Citywide Treasure Hunt; Lincoln District Business Association for the Lincoln District Lunar New Year Festival; Museum of Glass for Glass Fest Northwest; Northwest Sinfonietta for their 'Voices Rise' Concert with La Cantina and Northwest Sinfonietta; One Table Show for Building the Table: Developing Semi-Improvisational Theater; Por Vida NW for Music in the Park; Queer Northwest for their Queer Art Project Mural; SENCo Creates! For the Wright Avenue Mural project at Sheridan Elementary PTA's Sheridan Elementary Mural project; Sing Tacoma for their Sing Tacoma: One Night. One Piece, One Shared Song event; Tacoma Art Museum for their Día de los Muertos Festival; Tacoma Arts Live for Lemon Sessions; Tacoma City Ballet for open adult and dance for wellness classes; Tacoma Light Trail for their New Year's Eve Celebration; Tacoma Public Schools Arts Department for the Student Art Exhibit Opening Night at Handforth Gallery; The Chayah Movement for their Threads of Freedom Showcase; The Method Skateboards & Coffee for Skate Of The Art 2: A Skateboard Art Show; Trío Guadalevín for El Noroeste: A Musical History of Latine Communities in Washington; Vision253 for Generation 253; Washington State History Museum for the IN THE SPIRIT Arts Market & Northwest Native Festival; and WayOut Kids for their Juneteenth Celebration: A Road to Economic Freedom.
