The individual found 61 cats living in unsafe conditions and immediately alerted authorities. Thanks to the quick response of the Tacoma Police Department's Animal Control and Marine Services units, these animals were rescued and are now receiving proper care.

While many are grateful for the rescue of these cats, there is also frustration over the fact that this situation could have been avoided. This incident sheds light on the need for improvements in animal welfare systems and highlights the intersection between animal welfare and public safety.

According to Mayor Victoria Woodards, situations like this put a strain on limited resources and cannot be solved simply by building more shelters or asking community members to take in more animals.
