~ On 11/08/23, Spokane Police responded to a call of a white powdery substance in an envelope at the Spokane County Elections Office. The Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and the Spokane Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team were dispatched to retrieve the substance. Initial tests of the powder were negative for agents and explosives, and positive for fentanyl. According to Julie Humphreys, Public Safety Communication Manager, SPD is working with state and federal partners on this ongoing investigation. Similar incidents have occurred at other election offices across the state today.
