~ On the evening of December 9th, 2025, a police officer from the Downtown District witnessed a person riding a BMX style bicycle on the sidewalk near Sprague and Stevens. The officer, who has been identified as Officer Daniel Strassenberg, also noticed that the bike did not have any visual lights. As he approached the subject to address the violation, the individual ignored all verbal commands to stop and fled on their bike.
Officer Strassenberg pursued the suspect on foot and almost caught up to them as they rode through a nearby parking lot. With additional officers responding to the scene, the suspect was eventually detained a short distance away. During this time, one of the assisting officers observed the suspect throwing a small black bag before being apprehended.
The suspect was later identified as 47-year-old Gena R. Belger and was placed under arrest for Obstructing and Resisting Arrest. A search of her person revealed a black wallet containing various items such as a license, credit cards, and nearly $800 in cash. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that these items belonged to another female who had reported them stolen in Airway Heights on December 8th. Additionally, other items belonging to another person were found in Belger's possession.

As a result of these findings, Belger was charged with four counts of 2nd Degree Possession of Stolen Property and taken into custody at Spokane County Jail. Officer Strassenberg also contacted the victim and returned her stolen belongings.
