~ Spokane, WA- On November 20th, 2024 at 11:41am, Spokane Police received a report from concerned students that a student may have been in possession of a weapon on the campus of Ash and Wellesley. The information was quickly brought to the attention of school officials who then contacted the authorities.
Officers from the Spokane Police Department arrived at the school within minutes of the initial 911 call. After gathering additional information, they developed a plan to ensure the safety of all students and staff on campus. As a result, two students were detained for further investigation.

During the investigation, it was discovered that one of the students was in possession of an airsoft style handgun. The minor was taken into custody for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
Officer Daniel Strassenberg, Public Information Officer for Spokane Police Department, emphasized their strong partnership with Spokane Public Schools in ensuring safety for students and staff. He also commended the concerned students for their role in aiding campus safety.
The SPD would like to remind community members to report any school safety concerns to 911. This incident serves as another positive outcome where swift action and cooperation between authorities and community members helped maintain a safe environment for all.
