~ In a recent hearing before the House Finance Committee, Spokane City Council Member Paul Dillon, representing District 2, testified in support of House Bill 1258. The bill aims to address the issue of 911 Emergency Communications Tax Fairness and provide a solution to the lack of representation at the Spokane Emergency Regional Communications (SREC).
As the chair of Finance and Administration, Dillon expressed his pride in supporting HB 1258. He highlighted the fact that despite being responsible for the highest number of calls for service, Spokane, as the largest city, does not have a say in matters concerning 911 services. The proposed bill would allocate 48% of the 911 excise tax revenue to the city, which Dillon believes is a fair and sensible solution considering their call volume is approximately 60%.

Dillon emphasized that public safety is a top priority for all and that residents deserve to feel safe. However, he also stressed that politics should not hinder efforts to ensure public safety. This is why he believes it is crucial to create fairness in how 911 dispatch services are funded, which is exactly what HB 1258 aims to do.
Dillon expressed his gratitude towards Rep. Timm Ormsby and Rep. Natasha Hill for their efforts in moving this legislation forward and working towards collaborative solutions. With this bill, Dillon hopes to see an improvement in how 911 services are funded and ultimately enhance public safety for all residents.
