Saturday, Feb. 27, at approximately 10:00 PM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) and a District 8 Engine Company, through automatic aid, were dispatched to the 3400 block of East 28th Avenue for a residence on fire.  911 had received reports of smoke and flames emanating from the home before the SFD's arrival. Also reported by the neighbor was the probability of a man still inside the home.

Firefighters arrived in two minutes to find heavy fire conditions pouring out of the front of the structure. Firefighters rapidly searched the home for victims and within five minutes after the arrival of the first fire company found a man inside the rear of the home who had sustained burn injuries and suffered from smoke inhalation. The Fire District 8 Paramedics and AMR began treatment and transported the patient to the Sacred Heart Medical Center. No firefighters were injured.
