~ In the early hours of this morning, a vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred at the intersection of 49th and Perry. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) responded to the scene after receiving a report of the incident just after 5:30am.

According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, Public Information Officer for SPD, upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered an unresponsive adult female lying in the roadway. She was quickly transported to a local hospital where she is currently in critical condition.

As officers were responding to the scene, they were informed that the driver had fled on foot, leaving behind both the vehicle and a passenger. Community members provided updates on the direction of travel for the driver, leading officers to an area near 195 and Eagle Ridge.

Upon arrival at this location, officers detained a 17-year-old male who matched the suspect's description and was not wearing any shoes. After further investigation, it was determined that he was indeed the driver of the suspect vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim and her friend were jogging when they were struck by the vehicle. It is also believed that speed and impairment played a role in this incident. The suspect has been taken into custody for Vehicular Assault, Felony Hit and Run, and DUI charges.

The passenger in the vehicle, also a juvenile, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. The investigation into this incident is ongoing as authorities work to gather more information about what led to this tragic collision.
