NEW YORK - Washingtoner -- Rigani Press is pleased to announce that Rushing Headlong: Health IT's Legacy and the Road to Responsible AI written by Dr. S. Yin Ho- has been named a winner in the 28th annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards, meriting an Honorable Mention in the category of Science & Technology.

Foreword Reviews, a book review journal focusing on independently published books, announced the winners of its INDIES Book of the Year Awards on Thursday, June 4, 2026. These awards celebrate the outstanding books published in 2025 by small, independent, and university presses. You can view all of the winners here:

"Each year, as our number of entrants increases and diversifies, the job of narrowing each genre category to a select few finalists gets harder," notes Editor-in-Chief Michelle Schingler. "But that also makes the judges' ultimate selections all the more exciting. We so look forward to their final choices, and we are so proud to celebrate this year's exemplary slate of winners."

"I am deeply honored to have this book recognized by Foreword Reviews," remarked Dr. Ho. "There has always been a temptation to rush headlong into the next technological wave — and today is no different with generative AI. The story of the information infrastructure under the U.S. healthcare system-- is one of more than thirty years of policy decisions, market distortions, competing agendas, and unintended consequences.  The result is a health information system optimized for billing and compliance rather than for learning and care.  AI development now inherits that legacy.  Without understanding how we got here, we are likely repeat mistakes, only faster and at far greater scale. I hope this recognition brings the book to a wider audience of patients, physicians, researchers, and innovators who will push for AI to responsibly bridge the divide between clinical care and research — rather than continue to cement the billing imperative of the system we have today."

Rushing Headlong is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and booksellers everywhere in both print and e-book formats.
