Community Invited to Learn About Equity Index Tool on April 29

TACOMA, Wash. -- As part of the City of Tacoma's ongoing efforts to help improve equitable access to services for community members, a more user-friendly Equity Index – an interactive mapping and data visualization tool that highlights inequities in Tacoma – now features fresh data and nine new indicators relating to environmental health. Maps have also been added for Tacoma Public Utilities' water, power and combined service areas.

"There are areas of Tacoma where there are better outcomes and higher opportunities for success, and other areas of Tacoma where these opportunities are lacking," said Strategic Initiatives Coordinator Bucoda Warren. "The Equity Index uses 29 data points to determine where community members are not able to access services or where services do not meet our community's needs. Working to achieve equity and meet our anti-racist transformational goals requires tools like these that help us better understand conditions across our community, identify where focused effort and resources are needed, make data-informed decisions and take action."
