~ On the morning of October 31st, 2024, Spokane Police Department received a call about a possible burglary at a business located in the 3000 block of East Sprague Avenue. According to an employee of the business, an unknown individual was seen on security footage removing tires from a white truck parked in the lot.
Upon arrival, officers quickly located a white truck in the lot with missing tires. As they approached the vehicle, they noticed a man attempting to flee from the scene. The officers were able to detain him in the parking lot.
Further investigation revealed that the missing truck tires were found behind the business and that there was evidence of forced entry through a cut fence. The suspect, identified as Brandon S. Machala (39), was taken into custody and booked into Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Burglary. It was discovered that Machala had prior felony convictions for Retail Theft.

This incident serves as another example of how technology, specifically security video footage, and swift police response can work together to prevent crimes in progress. The SPD Public Information Officer, Ofc. Daniel Strassenberg, commended both factors for their role in stopping this burglary.
