~ Spokane Police Officers have arrested two men for felony assault charges after a tense standoff on the South Hill. This is not the first time that police have been called to this address for violent crimes involving firearms.
According to Lt. Terry Preuninger, Public Information Officer for the Spokane Police Department, officers responded to a report of an argument involving two males who were displaying and pointing guns on Sunday (2-18-24). The suspects fled before the officers arrived at the scene.
With the help of a K9 team, the armed suspects were tracked to an apartment in the 3100 block of S. Mt Vernon. Through video footage and vehicle registration information, one of the suspects was identified as Levante Potter. He was later arrested for second degree assault.
As officers surrounded the apartment, they attempted to communicate with the occupants who refused to comply. After multiple failed attempts, SWAT, Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU), Arial Support Unit (ASU), and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) were called in for assistance.

A police robot was used to enter the apartment and a drone was deployed to aid in the search. The suspects, along with an uninvolved female, were found hiding in a bedroom and surrendered upon being discovered.
Levante Potter (31) and Dempsey Arrow (18) were both arrested and charged with second degree assault. The incident number is SPD #2024-20031180.
During this incident, officers recognized the apartment from a previous call on August 17th of last year. On that occasion, multiple individuals had barricaded themselves inside after committing an armed robbery at a local Game Stop store. A police robot was also used in that incident to enter the apartment and compel the suspects to surrender. The incident number for that call is SPD #2023-20164102.
This latest arrest highlights ongoing issues with violence involving firearms at this particular address. The Spokane Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of the community and will continue to take necessary actions to address these types of crimes.
